Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted the importance of dialogue to achieve lasting peace in the state, emphasizing efforts to prevent violence and ensure safety for all. He attended the funeral of former BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte, a tribal leader who succumbed to injuries from ethnic violence. Singh stressed the necessity of peace for Manipur’s development and acknowledged the role of dialogue in achieving this goal.
Singh, during a media interaction, expressed that dialogue is the way forward for peace in Manipur and underlined its significance for the state’s progress. He also visited the Churachandpur district, becoming the first Chief Minister to do so since the outbreak of ethnic violence. Singh described Valte as a calm individual and regretted not being able to prevent the tragic incident that led to his demise.
The Chief Minister’s visit to Churachandpur was a personal gesture of respect towards Valte, whom he considered a friend. Singh extended his support to Valte’s family and friends, emphasizing their close bond. He recalled the government’s efforts to maintain peace and security during the initial days of unrest in Manipur.
Singh, accompanied by MLA Tongbram Robindro, paid his respects to Valte by offering floral tributes and praying for his soul’s eternal peace. Valte, a BJP leader from the Zomi tribal community, was laid to rest in Churachandpur after a prolonged medical battle following the violent attack. His demise marked the end of a challenging journey for the veteran leader and his community.
