Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted the unifying power of sports, stating that they promote friendship, unity, and social harmony. He noted how sporting events transcend regional, community, and cultural boundaries, bringing people together. Singh mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Manipur the country’s first National Sports University in recognition of the state’s talented sportspersons. He emphasized the institution’s contribution to sports development and its potential in nurturing future athletes. The Chief Minister also shared that infrastructure works at the university are expected to be completed soon, solidifying Manipur’s status as a key sports hub in India.
Underlining the importance of preserving indigenous games, Singh highlighted Kang, one of Manipur’s traditional sports. He commended the efforts to promote and preserve this ancient game, which holds significant cultural value in the state. Singh acknowledged the Manipur Kang Association for their dedication in safeguarding the state’s cultural heritage through initiatives like the Chief Minister’s Kang Trophy.
Expressing gratitude for the event’s warm reception, Singh praised the calls for unity and togetherness among the people. He announced a contribution of Rs 1 lakh from his account to support the promotion of indigenous games, continuing the tradition of backing the tournament. The 13th Chief Minister Trophy Kang Tournament, organized by the Manipur Kang Association, concluded at Manipur Kangshang in Imphal, with several dignitaries and sports personalities in attendance.
