Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi to discuss the state government’s efforts in restoring peace and harmony in Manipur. Accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, this meeting marked the first interaction between Chief Minister Khemchand Singh and Prime Minister Modi since the former took office on February 4. The Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister on the measures being taken to promote peace, stability, and social harmony in Manipur and emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment across the state.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur. Singh, along with the Deputy Chief Ministers, has been engaging with various Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders in New Delhi since February 21. Discussions have focused on a wide range of issues related to Manipur’s development and welfare, including a meeting with Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who approved the construction of 5,000 new houses for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence in the state.
Additionally, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh held talks with Union Ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia, Nirmala Sitharaman, and Rajnath Singh, discussing coordination for addressing key concerns in Manipur, financial assistance for the state’s economic revival, and support for government initiatives. The Chief Minister also met with BJP leaders to discuss party-related matters concerning Manipur. Earlier, Singh and the Deputy Chief Ministers had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address various issues, including the rehabilitation of internally displaced persons and efforts to foster peace and harmony among different communities in Manipur.
