Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh prayed for peace and prosperity in Manipur during the Rath Yatra festival. The festival involves the procession of wooden chariots carrying Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra in various states. In Manipur, the return procession is celebrated as “Purna Jatra” or “Kanglen” to conclude the annual Kang Chingba festival.
The Chief Minister participated in religious observances at the Shri Govindaji Temple in Imphal during the Purna Jatra. He expressed his sanctification at being part of the religious services alongside Maharaja Shri Leishemba Sanajaoba and many devotees. Purna Jatra, also known as Kanglen locally, signifies the successful conclusion of the 10-day Kang Chingba festival, with prayers for unity and prosperity in Manipur.
In a move to enhance the education sector and civic infrastructure, the Chief Minister inaugurated the new District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) building and the Ima Market in Imphal West district. The DIET building was constructed under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, while the Ima Market was developed under the SASCI project. The Chief Minister praised the efforts of local MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh and expressed confidence in the rapid development of Salam.
The newly constructed DIET building and Ima Market were inspected by the Chief Minister, who highlighted the high construction standards maintained. The DIET Centre at Salam was built at a cost of Rs 4.47 crore, sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Education. Additionally, the Ima Market at Salam, constructed at Rs 3 crore, was approved under the SASCI scheme for Manipur. The Ministry of Education has plans for 16 DIET Centres in Manipur, with nine currently operational.
