Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh emphasized the historical peace and communal harmony in the state before the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, 2023. Addressing a ‘Homecoming Ceremony’ for militants’ surrender, he highlighted the detrimental impact of the conflict on Manipur’s gun culture.

Singh called for collective efforts from all sectors of society to restore enduring peace and rebuild public trust. Notably, 46 members of the Kangleipak Communist Party-People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) renounced militancy during the event, surrendering a significant cache of arms.

Acknowledging the joint efforts of Central and state security forces, Singh revealed the recovery of over 8,000 weapons. Since assuming office on February 4, more than 1,200 firearms, including those looted during the unrest, have been retrieved, showcasing a commitment to peace restoration.

The Chief Minister commended individuals voluntarily surrendering arms, recognizing them as peace advocates dedicated to normalcy reinstatement. He stressed the futility of conflict and gun culture in achieving peace, welcoming the surrendered militants to contribute positively to a peaceful future.

Singh pledged full support for implementing the Revised Scheme for Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation of Militants in the North Eastern States, 2018, offering rehabilitation assistance and stipends to the former insurgents. He also praised the security forces for their role in maintaining law and order during the crisis, ensuring the safety of displaced individuals.
