Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering justice regarding the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians in Kangpokpi district. The Chief Minister disclosed that two suspects have been apprehended based on information from the victims’ families. The incident, which occurred on May 13, involved the killing of three pastors and the subsequent abduction of six individuals in Leilon Vaiphei village.
Recalling the tragic event, Chief Minister Singh mentioned that out of the 18 captured individuals, 12 were released while six were abducted and later found dead. He also shared that during a visit to Makhan village, five individuals allegedly involved were identified by the victims’ families.
In response to inquiries about the remaining suspects, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s responsibility to ensure their arrest. A joint team comprising the NIA, CRPF, and Manipur Police recently arrested a couple from Leilon Vaiphei village for their alleged role in the abduction and killing of the Naga civilians.
The Chief Minister had previously assigned the NIA to investigate the cases related to the abduction and killings, along with the murder of three church leaders. Additionally, an environmental conservation initiative called “Uningthou Uyok” was launched to promote the plantation of Manipur’s state tree, Uningthou.
