Manipur’s Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh, stressed the equal application of the law to all citizens and reiterated the police’s commitment to serving impartially without bias. He visited Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, engaging in efforts to enhance coordination among security forces, civil administration, and local groups in the hill areas. Accompanied by State Additional Director General of Police Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, the DGP interacted with senior police officials, reviewed law and order situations, and assessed police operational achievements in the region.
During his visit, Mukesh Singh, an IPS officer of the 1996 batch, discussed security arrangements and operational readiness with district police forces. He also met with district administration officials, Commanders of Central Armed Police Forces, and representatives from various Kuki and Naga civil society organizations to foster cooperation in maintaining peace and security. The DGP urged the public to collaborate with the police to uphold law and order and ensure a safe environment for all communities in Manipur.
The visit aimed to strengthen ties between the police, security forces, civil administration, and civil society groups to promote lasting peace, stability, and development in the districts and the state. However, tensions persisted in Kangpokpi and Senapati districts following the abduction of 20 individuals from the Naga and Kuki communities by armed groups since May 13. Despite extensive search operations, these individuals remain missing, with efforts ongoing to locate them. The incidents stemmed from violent clashes on May 13, resulting in the abduction of community members and subsequent releases following collaborative efforts.
