Ahead of the Kharif season, the Manipur government is intensifying efforts to ensure security and support for farmers in both valley and mountainous regions. Measures are being taken to prevent disturbances during cultivation by farmers from the Meitei, Kuki-Zo, and Naga communities. District-level meetings are being conducted to plan strategies for the safety and benefit of the farming community.
To provide security for Kharif paddy cultivation in Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts, a crucial meeting was held at the Mini Secretariat in Bishnupur. Discussions at the meeting, chaired by Inspector General of Police Ningshen Worngam, focused on security arrangements and the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence. Officials from various security forces attended the meeting to coordinate security efforts.
District police chiefs of Bishnupur and Churachandpur identified areas in their districts requiring additional security during the Kharif season. The Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur emphasized the rehabilitation and resettlement of families affected by ethnic violence. Inspector General of Police Worngam stressed the importance of close coordination between officials in both districts to address security challenges effectively.
The Kharif season in India, known for monsoon cropping, spans from June to October. This period involves sowing crops with the onset of the southwest monsoon and harvesting towards the end of the season. Optimal growth of these crops depends on abundant rainfall and warm, humid climatic conditions.
