Amid tensions between the Naga and Kuki communities in Manipur, the police have evacuated 51 Kuki students from a school in Ukhrul district as a precautionary measure. Clashes and violence have been ongoing between the Tangkhul Naga tribe and the Kuki community since February 7, resulting in burnt houses in Litan Sareikhong village.
A police official confirmed the safe evacuation of 51 Kuki students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Ramva, in Ukhrul district. These students, including 20 girls and 31 boys, were moved to JNV Kangpokpi due to the prevailing law and order situation. The evacuation was supported by local organizations to prevent any misunderstandings during the process.
Efforts by various local organizations facilitated the safe evacuation of students to Litan Police Station, despite the tense situation in the region. Manipur Police have urged all communities to exercise restraint and avoid spreading rumors during this sensitive period. The violence initially erupted following an alleged assault on a member of the Tangkhul Naga community on February 7.
As the situation improves, the state government has lifted internet suspension and withdrawn prohibitory orders in certain districts. Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring peace in the region while promoting sports and youth engagement.
