Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has sanctioned Rs 196.61 crore for upgrading the state police force. The funds aim to enhance the police’s capabilities to address the current situation effectively. The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to fortifying the police department and modernizing policing infrastructure statewide.
After the flag-off ceremony for 477 newly acquired vehicles for Manipur Police at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal, Khemchand Singh highlighted the importance of a robust police force in maintaining peace and security. The vehicles were provided under the “Assistance to States for Modernisation of Police” scheme.
Khemchand Singh praised Manipur Police personnel for their dedication and courage in handling the recent ethnic violence, acknowledging their efforts in preventing conflicts and restoring peace in the state. He noted that the large fleet of vehicles flagged off signifies a significant milestone for Manipur Police, enhancing police infrastructure, logistics, and emergency response capabilities, especially in hill districts.
The Chief Minister detailed the breakdown of the 477 vehicles, which included motorcycles, various types of vehicles, buses, and mine-protected vehicles. He also mentioned the government’s initiatives to increase ration money and uniform allowances for police personnel, appreciating the efforts of Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and his team in advancing police modernization.
Expressing gratitude to security agencies like the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF, and others for their support in maintaining law and order, Khemchand Singh urged the public to reject violence during protests and rallies, emphasizing the importance of promoting peace and harmony in Manipur. Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh commended the program as a reflection of the government’s commitment to strengthening police and security forces nationwide.
