Martyrs Sidhu-Kanhu, leaders of the Santhal Hul rebellion against British rule 171 years ago, were honored in Jharkhand on Hul Diwas. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, and others paid tribute at Sidhu-Kanhu Park in Ranchi. People gathered at the historic site in Bhognadih village to pay respects to the martyrs.
Hul Diwas signifies more than historical remembrance, representing resistance against injustice, Chief Minister Soren emphasized. Sidhu-Kanhu and others initiated a revolt against British rule, setting an example of defiance. The spirit of resistance against injustice remains relevant globally in fights for the rights of the weak.
Chief Minister Soren likened the eternal flame of revolution to those at Rajghat and India Gate, symbolizing the enduring spirit of resistance. Leader of Opposition Marandi also honored the martyrs, highlighting the historic mass rebellion against British policies. The Santhal community, under remarkable leadership, fought to safeguard their land, forests, and identity.
The Hul movement, led by Sidhu Murmu, Kanhu Murmu, and others, transcended challenging British authority to symbolize freedom and self-respect. Marandi stressed that the sacrifices of the Hul martyrs inspire society to uphold justice and protect cultural heritage.
