Maruti Suzuki India has opened a cutting-edge vehicle manufacturing plant at IMT Kharkhoda in Haryana. The facility, spread over 800 acres, includes an integrated manufacturing complex and a supplier park. Initially, the plant will produce 5 lakh vehicles annually, with plans to double production to 10 lakh units in the next phase.
The Kharkhoda facility is based on Suzuki’s ‘Smart Factory’ concept, incorporating Industry 5.0 technologies to enhance safety, quality, and productivity. It also emphasizes sustainability, utilizing solar power, biogas, and battery energy storage systems. The entire electricity demand of the plant will be met through renewable energy sources.
This inauguration signifies a significant milestone in Maruti Suzuki’s longstanding presence in India. The plant’s full capacity operation will be pivotal in Maruti Suzuki’s goal of achieving an annual production capacity of four million vehicles.
Toshihiro Suzuki, highlighting the project’s importance, expressed gratitude for the inauguration by Prime Ministers Modi and Takaichi. He emphasized the growth potential of expanding the plant’s capacity to become one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturing facilities.
The project underscores the success of the India-Japan partnership and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Suzuki is actively investing in India, creating employment opportunities, boosting exports, and advancing technology development under the supportive policy environment fostered by the Modi government.
