Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced a milestone achievement in green logistics by sending more than 5.85 lakh vehicles through railways in 2025, marking an 18% increase from the previous year. The company’s utilization of rail transport for outbound logistics has surged from 5.1% in 2016 to 26% in 2025, leading to a significant reduction in carbon emissions, oil imports, and road congestion.
In a statement, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted the company’s record rail dispatch in 2025, facilitated by key initiatives such as the inauguration of India’s largest automobile in-plant railway siding at the Manesar facility. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki became the first automaker to dispatch vehicles by rail to the Kashmir valley using the world’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River.
Looking ahead, Takeuchi outlined the company’s mid-term goal of increasing rail-based vehicle dispatches to 35% by FY2030-31, aligning with India’s net-zero target by 2070. Since FY 2014-15, Maruti Suzuki has transported over 28 lakh vehicles from 22 locations to more than 600 cities across India through a hub-and-spoke model, utilizing over 45 flexi deck rakes with a capacity of around 260 vehicles per trip.
In 2025, rail dispatches from Maruti Suzuki’s in-plant railway siding at Gujarat and Manesar accounted for 53% of the company’s total rail dispatches. The automaker has embraced a holistic ‘Circular Mobility’ approach to sustainability, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint throughout the vehicle lifecycle, encompassing design, production, logistics, and end-of-life vehicle management.
