A massive fire erupted at a furniture market in North East Delhi’s Shastri Park area, causing panic among shop owners and locals. The Delhi Fire Service control room was alerted about the blaze around 11:57 P.M. on Friday, with 25 fire tenders reaching the scene by 1:20 A.M. to tackle the flames.
The fire swiftly spread across multiple shops in the market, shrouding the area in thick smoke. Authorities are concerned about significant financial losses as numerous furniture units and goods were destroyed in the inferno. Tension escalated as enraged locals reportedly disrupted firefighting efforts by pelting stones at fire brigade vehicles.
Amid the chaos, a firefighter at the scene expressed frustration over the hindrances faced, urging police intervention to maintain order. Residents criticized the delayed response from authorities, with one individual highlighting the alleged lack of prompt fire brigade assistance during the initial hours of the blaze. Another resident raised suspicions of foul play, suggesting a deliberate and politically motivated act behind the devastating fire.
Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Delhi Police teams have arrived at the site to investigate the fire’s cause, with forensic experts conducting examinations as part of the ongoing probe. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and firefighting operations continued for several hours to fully extinguish the flames.
