A massive fire erupted in a multi-storey building in Delhi’s Tughlakabad area on June 12, resulting in three fatalities. Police investigations revealed that the fire was intentionally set as an act of revenge due to personal enmity. Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. The blaze, reported at 2:24 a.m., caused injuries to eight individuals who were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
CCTV footage from the scene captured a woman entering the building shortly before the fire started, leading authorities to conclude that the incident was a deliberate act of arson. A 17-year-old girl, apprehended in connection with the case, confessed that she was instigated by a 27-year-old woman named Sarita to set fire to a scooter belonging to a resident named Deepak over a financial dispute. Further investigations revealed that the conspiracy was orchestrated by Niranjan, a 33-year-old resident, and his 27-year-old brother Rajkumar to settle a personal score.
Additional charges including Criminal Conspiracy, Culpable Homicide, Attempt to Culpable Homicide, Mischief by Fire, and Lurking House-Trespass by Night were added to the case. All four suspects, including the minor girl, are now in custody. The victims of the tragic incident were identified as Pankaj, Sonia Kumari, and Sushila Devi. Authorities continue to investigate the matter as Delhi Fire Services face challenges due to the building’s location in a narrow street.
