Three days after a fatal blast at an alleged illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Ahmedabad’s Ramol area, Gujarat Police confiscated illegal firecrackers valued at over Rs 39.57 crore from two warehouses in the city. The seizure is part of intensified efforts to crack down on unsafe storage and handling of explosives in the district.

During a patrol in the Matoda beat area, officers received credible intelligence about suspected illegal firecracker storage. Acting on this information, police searched a warehouse named ‘Abika Trade Link’ and discovered two warehouses filled with 65,954 cartons of various firecrackers, totaling an estimated value of Rs 39,57,90,000.

Authorities found inadequate fire safety measures at the warehouses, with no water sprinkler system in place. The presence of stacked cartons of firecrackers outside the approved storage area posed a serious risk to human life and nearby property in case of a fire or explosion.

Two individuals, Amitkumar Modi and Kishan Patel, have been implicated in the case. Modi, the license holder, and Patel, who managed the warehouse, are facing legal action under relevant sections of the law. The investigation is ongoing to establish the firm’s legal status, verify licenses, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

The seizure follows a recent explosion at an illegal firecracker unit in Ramol that claimed multiple lives. In response, authorities have ramped up inspections, sealed non-compliant units, and issued warnings to license holders to adhere to safety protocols to avoid legal consequences.
