Fast bowler Mayank Yadav, known for his pace and impactful performances in IPL 2024, has been selected in the India A squad for warm-up games against the USA and Namibia ahead of the T20 World Cup. Yadav, who has been sidelined for over a year due to a stress fracture, is making a comeback, showcasing his readiness in challenging situations.
Joining Yadav is Tilak Varma, who has been given the green light by BCCI’s Centre of Excellence post a successful recovery from a groin injury. Varma, a left-handed batsman, missed the recent T20I series against New Zealand and will use these warm-up matches to regain his form before rejoining the senior team.
The BCCI has confirmed that Varma will feature in one warm-up match before reuniting with the senior squad, emphasizing the importance of these preparatory games for players returning from injuries or on the fringes of selection. India A, led by Ayush Badoni, comprises a blend of seasoned domestic players and promising talents like Naman Dhir, Vipraj Nigam, and Riyan Parag, with the presence of experienced campaigners Ravi Bishnoi and Khaleel Ahmed providing stability to the team.
The upcoming matches against the USA and Namibia at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, respectively, are crucial for India A as they gear up for the T20 World Cup. These fixtures not only offer valuable game time but also serve as a vital rehearsal before the tournament opener against the USA on February 7.
