The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has explained that the run-out of Salman Ali Agha during the Bangladesh-Pakistan ODI was correctly decided under the Laws of Cricket. The incident occurred when Mehidy Hasan Miraz collided with Agha while attempting to field a shot played by Mohammad Rizwan. Agha, believing play had stopped, was run out as Miraz deflected the ball onto the stumps.

The MCC confirmed that the on-field decision was accurate and stated that the non-striker was out of his ground when the wicket was broken. Agha’s attempt to handle the ball put him at risk of dismissal for obstructing the field. The MCC rejected suggestions that the ball should have been declared dead after the collision, emphasizing that the Laws did not allow for such a ruling.

The MCC clarified that even under the revised dead-ball law, the outcome would have remained the same. While supporting the legality of the dismissal, the MCC noted that Bangladesh could have chosen to recall the batter to uphold the Spirit of Cricket. The Laws permit a withdrawal of an appeal in situations where the batter is out but the fielding side feels it would be more appropriate to continue play.
