The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) affirmed that Lipulekh Pass has served as a route for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra since 1954, emphasizing its longstanding usage. Responding to Nepal’s comments on the border issue related to the Yatra, MEA’s Official Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, addressed the media. India has consistently maintained that territorial claims lacking historical basis are unjustified, denouncing unilateral expansion of such claims as untenable. The MEA reiterated India’s willingness for constructive engagement with Nepal to address bilateral issues, including boundary disputes, through dialogue and diplomacy.
The Ministry of External Affairs of Nepal recently stated that Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani are integral parts of Nepal as per the Sugauli Treaty of 1816. Nepal expressed concerns to India and China through diplomatic channels regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra passing through “Nepali territory, Lipulekh.” Nepal emphasized its commitment to resolving border issues with India through diplomatic channels, based on historical treaties, agreements, and evidence, in the spirit of close and friendly relations between the two countries.
