The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador to India, Oleksandr Polishchuk, regarding the attack on the commercial vessel MV OMORFI, leading to the tragic death of an Indian national. The MEA expressed serious concern over the incident, condemning such attacks on commercial shipping for their adverse impact on maritime safety, navigation freedom, and international commerce.

India’s Embassy in Ukraine reported that four Indian nationals were on board the MV GN Ragnar vessel struck at the Port of Odesa, with two confirmed safe and information awaited about the other two. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with constant communication with relevant authorities. The MEA previously announced the death of an Indian national in an attack on MV OMORFI in Russian territorial waters, emphasizing the need to uphold international obligations for maritime safety and global commerce.

India strongly denounced attacks on commercial shipping, emphasizing the need to protect civilian lives and ensure maritime security. The country called on all parties to fulfill international obligations for the safety of maritime navigation and global commerce, amidst increasing threats to freedom of navigation.
