A meeting between Rajasthan Congress In-Charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi has stirred political speculation. Randhawa clarified that the meeting was pre-planned to address the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab. Senior Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Govind Singh Dotasra supported Randhawa, urging against politicizing the meeting.
The meeting has garnered attention amidst factionalism within the Punjab Congress, leading to varied political interpretations. Randhawa, after meeting Amit Shah, dismissed attempts to politicize the discussion as baseless. He emphasized that the meeting was focused on Punjab’s security concerns, as highlighted in his prior communications with the Prime Minister and Home Minister.
Randhawa highlighted issues like terrorism, narco-terrorism, and gangster-politician nexus in his letters to the government. He emphasized the need for stronger action and intelligence agency involvement to combat organized crime in Punjab. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot defended Randhawa’s family legacy of opposing militancy and anti-national elements, supporting the necessity of discussing security issues with the Union Home Minister.
Rajasthan Congress President Dotasra echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that national security concerns should transcend political affiliations. Despite clarifications and support from senior leaders, the meeting continues to spark political discussions, especially in the context of internal dynamics within the Punjab Congress. The party leadership maintains that the meeting solely addressed law and order and national security issues in Punjab.
