A meeting took place on Saturday between the Punjab Congress factions led by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the party’s general secretary Bhupesh Baghel. Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Randhawa expressed the need for bold and decisive leaders within the party. The rival camp, consisting of over 90 leaders, has been advocating for the removal of state unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, citing instances of division caused by him.
Baghel, the party’s state in-charge, emphasized the importance of uncompromised leadership and stated his commitment to safeguarding everyone’s interests. He assured that deserving candidates would be given tickets for the upcoming elections. While there were discussions on various issues, including the law-and-order situation and corruption, Baghel clarified that there was no talk of replacing Raja Warring as the state chief.
Former Home Minister Randhawa highlighted the necessity for the party to reconsider certain decisions for the greater unity and success of the Congress in Punjab. The supporters of former CM Channi have been vocal in their demand for Channi to be appointed as the state Congress chief, expressing concerns about the party’s electoral prospects under Warring’s leadership.
