Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma led a high-level review meeting in Shillong to discuss the redevelopment of Tura town. The state government is planning projects totaling nearly Rs 1,928 crore to enhance the region’s infrastructure, tourism, and urban amenities. Cabinet Ministers Timothy D. Shira and Sanbor Shullai, along with senior officials, attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister assessed the progress of various ongoing infrastructure and development projects in Tura, valued at over Rs 1,331 crore. Discussions also revolved around upcoming projects that will be executed in phases over the coming years. Key ongoing projects include the Tura Integrated Administrative Complex, the PA Sangma Sports Complex, the Pa Togan Sangma Track and Field Stadium, and the Tura Technology Park.
Among the ongoing initiatives are the beautification of Tura Bazaar, the construction of a Convention Centre, the development of the Pelga Tourist Circuits and Hospitality Complex, a Working Women’s Hostel, heliport infrastructure, and the Tura Water Supply Scheme. Redevelopment work at the Polo Orchid Hotel is set to begin soon.
The meeting also reviewed projects worth Rs 242.74 crore that are at the tendering stage, including the redevelopment of Najing Bazaar, a multi-level parking and cinema complex at SMELC, Tura City Park, an Active Ageing Centre, a Kids Zone at Araimile, and the proposed Tura Promenade. Future projects include the Chief Minister’s Youth Centre, the renovation of the Circuit House, a commercial complex, modern street lighting installation, and sports infrastructure at Kendriya Vidyalaya.
Emphasizing the importance of timely project execution, Sangma urged departments to enhance inter-departmental coordination for the successful implementation of the comprehensive redevelopment plan for Tura town.
