Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma highlighted the importance of outcome-oriented, technology-driven, and citizen-centric policing during the Senior Superintendents of Police and Commandants of Police (SSP–COs) Conference 2026. He stressed that the success of the police force should be measured by improved public safety and reduced crime rates rather than recruitment numbers or infrastructure expansion. Sangma called for a focus on core priorities like law and order, crime prevention, and public safety, emphasizing the need for institutional mechanisms, continuous training, and technology integration within the police system.
Recruiting personnel should not be seen as an achievement in itself, Sangma pointed out. The true achievement lies in the reduction of crime, saving lives, and enhancing public safety, as stated by the Chief Minister during the conference attended by senior officers of the Meghalaya Police. The conference served as a platform for reviewing operational efficiency, administrative reforms, internal security management, and infrastructure strengthening within the state police force.
Chief Minister Sangma commended the regular conduct of the SSP–COs Conference, considering it a significant institutional enhancement. He expressed gratitude to the State Director General of Police (DGP) I. Nongrang for ensuring the consistent organization of such conferences. Sangma highlighted the importance of open communication to address departmental issues effectively and encouraged police officers to openly raise concerns faced at the field level, directing that all conference presentations and raised issues be compiled for detailed review.
