Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of well-trained teachers in providing quality education while inaugurating the Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy (MTTA). The academy aims to strengthen the state’s education system and enhance learning outcomes. Sangma highlighted the significance of continuous professional development for teachers over one-time training programs.
The Chief Minister expressed concerns over Meghalaya’s low performance in national assessments like PGI 2.0 and PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024, emphasizing the need for improved student learning outcomes. He stressed the importance of systematic education reforms and strong institutions for sustainable improvements. Sangma also mentioned the government’s efforts to rationalize and restructure the pay of over 23,000 SSA teachers to address educational challenges.
The MTTA will operate through a decentralized “Hub-and-Spoke” model, connecting the main institution with District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and Colleges of Teacher Education (CTEs) across Meghalaya. This model aims to provide standardized training closer to teachers’ workplaces, minimizing disruptions to classroom teaching. Additionally, the academy will utilize data analytics, educational technology, and specialized training to enhance teaching standards and boost student learning outcomes.
