Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of investing in youth and sports infrastructure for the state’s future during the inauguration of an enhanced playground and indoor sports stadium at Umlyngka. The event was attended by various officials, including R.V. Lyngdoh and Hamletson Dohling, along with local community members.
Sangma highlighted the government’s efforts towards balanced development across different sectors and regions in Meghalaya. He stressed the need for governance to be responsive to the people’s needs while ensuring widespread development at the grassroots level. The Chief Minister expressed that investing in the youth and community is crucial for long-term progress.
The newly upgraded sports facility, costing Rs 3.5 crore, was described by Sangma as an investment in shaping future generations rather than a mere expense. He emphasized that such infrastructure plays a vital role in nurturing disciplined and hardworking individuals who embody sportsmanship values in all aspects of life. Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to bolstering the sports sector through infrastructure development and policy initiatives.
Sangma commended the local residents, particularly the youth, urging them to take collective responsibility for maintaining the facility effectively. The upgraded complex includes an indoor sports hall equipped with a badminton court, changing rooms, restrooms, and an officials’ area, benefiting four local schools and approximately 3,000 young individuals in the vicinity.
