Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi to talk about the state’s progress, future growth plans, and areas needing support from the Centre. Sangma expressed gratitude for Modi’s time and warm wishes on Meghalaya Statehood Day. He also appreciated Modi’s recognition of Meghalaya’s unique heritage, especially the Living Root Bridge Cultural Landscape.
Chief Minister Sangma highlighted Meghalaya’s economic growth and improvements in human development indicators during the meeting. He mentioned advancements in maternal health and overall human development, along with initiatives to boost the rural economy and develop the New Shillong city project. Tourism development, preparations for the 39th National Games in 2027, and discussions on future growth were also key topics.
Sangma discussed sustaining economic momentum in North Eastern Region states, central support for capital investment, infrastructure development, and fiscal empowerment with Modi. He submitted documents outlining Meghalaya’s progress, Vision 2032 for economic growth, and proposals for continued support. Modi assured ongoing assistance for Meghalaya’s development goals.
