Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma reaffirmed his government’s focus on citizen-oriented governance and participatory development. He highlighted the importance of direct engagement with residents to ensure that developmental projects in urban areas like Tura meet the genuine needs of the people.
During the “MLA Connect” event in Tura, Sangma expressed the government’s dedication to modernizing the town through investments in infrastructure, civic services, beautification efforts, and public space creation. He stressed the significance of field visits and public consultations in enhancing project coordination and accelerating implementation.
Residents, local leaders, and youth groups raised concerns about issues such as road conditions, sanitation, and urban infrastructure during the interaction. The Chief Minister responded by directing the Tura Municipal Board to address challenges in garbage collection services, especially in adverse weather conditions.
Sangma also assured support for improving a local primary school’s infrastructure and endorsed the development of a basketball court and youth facilities. He addressed residents’ worries about high electricity bills post smart meter installation, promising prompt resolution of billing discrepancies. The Chief Minister encouraged citizen participation in the economic census for effective welfare planning and targeted government assistance.
