Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of people-centric and responsive governance during the inauguration of the CM Connect Centre at Sohiong C&RD Block. He highlighted the need for every citizen to be heard and for development to reach every village. Sangma described the CM Connect programme as a platform for listening to people’s concerns and ensuring their voices are heard.
Governance, according to Sangma, is an ongoing process that demands continuous effort. He stressed the significance of prioritizing people while maintaining a clear vision and goal. The CM Connect initiative, he explained, goes beyond being just a call centre or programme; it is a concept aimed at providing citizens with a direct platform to address their grievances.
Several development projects were unveiled during the event, with completed projects worth Rs 5.48 crore dedicated to the public. Additionally, foundation stones were laid for new projects totaling Rs 140.74 crore. Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that development reaches every village and citizen in the state. Projects inaugurated included infrastructure offices, libraries, waste management units, marketing centers, and facilities to enhance agricultural marketing and storage.
In a unique move, Sangma invited a former Indian Army soldier to inaugurate the Block Integrated Development Office, emphasizing community involvement in public infrastructure. The event also marked the commencement of projects related to tourism infrastructure, rural roads, water supply schemes, irrigation, and sports facilities. During the CM Connect interaction, residents raised concerns ranging from soil erosion to market infrastructure, with the Chief Minister assuring that these issues would be addressed by the relevant departments.
