Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of governance being responsive and connected to citizens. He highlighted the significance of public feedback shaping government decisions at the CM Connect–Public Consultative Meet in Shillong. This initiative aimed at fostering continuous citizen engagement was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, government officials, and community representatives.
Sangma described the meeting as a platform for listening to citizens, underscoring the necessity for governments to stay connected to the people for effective democratic governance. He emphasized the need for structured grievance redressal and communication mechanisms between citizens and the government through initiatives like CM Connect. The Chief Minister stressed the importance of public participation in addressing urban challenges like waste management and infrastructure development.
The CM Connect model operates through a central grievance platform and a call center mechanism to ensure timely resolution of complaints. Sangma also mentioned plans to integrate this mechanism with other initiatives like MLA Connect and DC Connect for enhanced citizen engagement at the local level. Deputy Chief Minister Dhar highlighted the success of CM Connect, attributing it to active citizen involvement and collaboration among various stakeholders.
The Chief Minister’s Artist Engagement Scheme was launched during the program to promote local artists through murals and street art across Meghalaya. Selected artists received advance cheques, and a locality grading initiative was introduced by the Shillong Municipal Board to assess cleanliness and environmental practices, with top-performing areas set to receive cash awards.
