Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, has announced the postponement of the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET), originally scheduled for May 29. This decision comes after teachers raised concerns about managing multiple national duties alongside exam preparation.
Addressing a public gathering in Damas, North Garo Hills district, Sangma stated that teachers, facing challenges balancing classroom responsibilities and government duties, will be given more time to prepare for the exam. The Chief Minister assured teachers that a new suitable date will be set to allow ample preparation time.
Acknowledging the educators’ pressures, Sangma emphasized the importance of ensuring teachers can adequately prepare for the eligibility test without neglecting their official tasks. He praised the dedication of teachers in Meghalaya despite existing challenges in professional training and infrastructure.
Sangma highlighted the government’s recent investments in the education sector, focusing on enhancing school infrastructure and increasing access to educational institutions across the state. While progress has been made in expanding the number of schools, the Chief Minister acknowledged the need to improve the quality of education in Meghalaya.
Recognizing that enhancing the education system requires collective efforts, Sangma called for collaboration among parents, communities, and stakeholders to create a conducive learning environment for students. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector and improving learning outcomes for children in Meghalaya.
