Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti, expressed disappointment over the silence of the Indian government and the ruling National Conference regarding the recent US-Israel attacks on Iran. She highlighted the bombings in Iran and the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, emphasizing India’s historical support for Iran during times of need.
Mufti criticized the lack of condemnation from Indian leaders towards the attacks and the subsequent arrests of individuals expressing solidarity with Iran. She raised concerns about the silence of Muslim nations and their indirect support to the US through providing bases, particularly referencing the recent US-Saudi Arabia agreement aimed at targeting Iran.
Additionally, Mufti called for the withdrawal of cases against political figures Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and Junaid Azim Mattu, labeling the charges as unwarranted. She urged for the release of all arrested individuals and emphasized the importance of peaceful protests while condemning media bans. During a press briefing, she symbolically burned posters of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
