People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over the plight of Kashmiris in jails since 2019. She mentioned that hundreds of youth are languishing in jails, with families approaching her for help. Mufti criticized the rising intolerance in the country and highlighted recent incidents of violence against Kashmiris.
She called for government intervention to ensure the safety of Kashmiris outside the region, citing a case of a Kashmiri shawl seller reportedly attacked by Bajrang Dal activists in Uttarakhand. Mufti also emphasized the need for job opportunities based on open merit. She raised concerns over the treatment of undertrials and the lack of response to her inquiries about them.
Mufti shared her disappointment with the lack of action from authorities and the judiciary regarding the situation of undertrials. She criticized the government’s handling of the issue and highlighted the high number of undertrials in jails. Mufti reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to advocating for the rights of Kashmiris and vowed to continue the fight for justice.
