Melbourne Renegades men’s team has shifted from Marvel Stadium to their new home at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) after a 15-year partnership. The team had been playing at Marvel Stadium since the inception of the Big Bash League in 2011-12, where they also secured the BBL 8 Championship.
The BBL club has now signed a new deal with the Melbourne Cricket Club to move their key matches to MCG starting from KFC BBL 16. They are scheduled to play three matches during BBL|16 at MCG, with two as the home team, including the Melbourne derby, and one as the away team against Melbourne Stars.
For the upcoming season, the Renegades will have their two home games in Melbourne at Junction Oval, and they will participate in the league’s historic Chennai fixture in December. This season marks the first time in five years that there will be no Big Bash matches in Geelong.
Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox expressed excitement about hosting the Melbourne Renegades at MCG during the 2026/27 summer of cricket. He emphasized the significance of the BBL in their cricket schedule and looks forward to providing fans with more opportunities to enjoy matches at MCG.
Captain Will Sutherland highlighted the players’ eagerness to compete at the iconic MCG and engage with large home crowds. He mentioned the incredible atmosphere during the last season’s Derby, showcasing the potential of Big Bash cricket at MCG.
Melbourne Renegades General Manager, Max Abbott, acknowledged the shift to MCG as the start of a new chapter while expressing gratitude to Marvel Stadium for being the team’s home for the past 15 years. Abbott recognized the venue’s role in hosting memorable moments and stated that it will always hold a special place in the club’s history.
