A mentally challenged man mistakenly crossed into Bangladesh and was suspected of espionage. Now, efforts are underway to repatriate him to India and reunite him with his family in West Bengal. Amateur radio operators from both countries have joined to facilitate this process.
The 66-year-old man was found in Bangladesh in March 2025, sparking rumors of him being an Indian spy disguised as mentally challenged. However, investigations proved otherwise, clearing him of all charges.
After being rescued, the man was cared for by Bangladeshi HAMs and later identified as Tinkari Rishi from Malda, West Bengal. His family, who had lost him five years ago due to a mental condition, has been located.
Efforts are now focused on his repatriation, with authorities in both countries working towards reuniting him with his family. The Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata is involved in the process, aiming for a swift resolution.
