The Meteorological Centre in Bhopal has issued a weather alert for Madhya Pradesh, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds over the next five days. Several districts have already experienced significant rainfall and strong winds, with Jabalpur receiving 29.3 mm of rainfall, Patan 15.8 mm, and Kurai 15 mm. Gusty winds reached 74 kmph in Jabalpur and 68 kmph in Sidhi, with hailstorms reported in Jabalpur and Damoh.
Moderate thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds up to 70 kmph are expected in various districts on Wednesday evening. Light thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds up to 50 kmph are forecasted for other districts. The IMD has also warned of gusty winds ranging from 40 kmph to 60 kmph in different regions until June 14.
Hailstorms and thunderstorms are predicted for several districts on June 12, while strong winds and lightning are expected in Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, and nearby areas. Severe weather conditions are anticipated in specific districts by June 13, prompting officials to advise farmers to protect crops from hail damage and residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms.
Authorities caution against seeking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning strikes and recommend parking vehicles in covered areas. Health experts have highlighted the increased risk of flu, cough, and cold during this period, suggesting vitamin-rich diets to boost immunity. As the southwest monsoon progresses, the IMD urges citizens to stay informed with official forecasts and take necessary precautions.
