Metro Railway in Kolkata will be adjusting its train schedule to benefit commuters, including students and office-goers. Starting July 27, 2026, trains will run from 6 a.m. instead of 6.50 a.m., with the last train departing at 10.30 p.m. instead of 9.44 p.m. This change aims to accommodate those working late or attending events.

The extended timings will initially apply to the Blue and Green Lines on weekdays, offering increased services from Monday to Saturday. The decision, made after considering stakeholder input, is seen as a positive step despite potential financial implications for the Metro.

The adjustments, implemented on a trial basis, may be reversed if there is insufficient demand. The Blue Line, running from Garia to Dakshineswar, and the Green Line, connecting Howrah Maidan to Salt Lake Sector – V, will see an increase in daily services to cater to the extended hours.

The state government will need to enhance connectivity and security around Metro stations, particularly for passengers, including women, traveling late at night. The decision to extend operating hours follows a request from the Calcutta High Court, addressing connectivity and security concerns raised by commuters in the past.
