MI Cape Town captain Rashid Khan expressed that his team is facing less pressure as they gear up for the upcoming SA20 season, commencing on Friday, following their triumph in the previous edition of the tournament.
The defending champions are set to kick off their title defense at Newlands against Durban’s Super Giants (DSG), featuring a lineup that includes Proteas stars Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch, Trent Boult, and new addition Nicholas Pooran.
Rashid highlighted that the team handled immense pressure last year, having previously finished at the bottom twice consecutively before clinching the trophy. He emphasized the collective team effort and players’ ability to take responsibility at crucial junctures during games.
In anticipation of the opening match, Rashid expressed confidence in the team’s experienced players, noting their adaptability to different conditions and situations swiftly. He particularly praised the energy and big-hitting prowess that Nicholas Pooran is expected to bring to the team.
Durban’s Super Giants, under new captain Aiden Markram, are also gearing up for the season with a formidable squad that includes players like Jos Buttler, Kane Williamson, and Heinrich Klaasen, aiming to establish a winning combination under coach Lance Klusener’s guidance.
Markram emphasized the importance of team cohesion and identity in playing good cricket and securing victories, especially in the face of the challenge posed by numerous new faces in the competition.
