A migrant woman, who gave birth while in custody and was left without anyone to take her home after being granted bail, has been reunited with her family in Madhya Pradesh. Originally from Alirajpur district, she had moved to Gujarat with her family in search of work. She was held in Nadiad District Jail as a co-accused in a case under the POCSO Act, 2012.
Officials revealed that she was named as a co-accused in an alleged kidnapping case involving a minor girl, alongside her husband and brother-in-law. Despite being pregnant when transferred to Nadiad District Jail, she was accompanied by her two-year-old child. After giving birth to a baby boy in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, she returned to jail with her newborn and older child.
Although granted bail by a local court, no family member came forward to secure her release due to financial constraints. Recognizing her plight, the DLSA in Anand provided legal aid and arranged for her safe return to her native village in Madhya Pradesh. With support from the Nadiad District Jail police and a local charitable organization, she was transported back home with her children under police escort.
Upon reaching her village, local police ensured her safe handover to family members. The woman’s family expressed gratitude to the DLSA, Nadiad District Jail authorities, Gujarat Police, and all involved in facilitating her return, allowing her to reunite with her family after a challenging period.
