Military representatives from Thailand and Cambodia gathered at the Thai border in Chanthaburi province for discussions on a ceasefire and monitoring arrangements. The meeting, part of the General Border Committee (GBC) at the Ban Phak Kat checkpoint, involved a preliminary session where the Cambodian delegation arrived for talks.
GBC Secretary for the Thai side, Nuttapong Praokaew, highlighted that the initial discussions aimed at setting the agenda for a forthcoming full-delegation meeting scheduled for the next day. Both countries have shared their positions in preparation for the 3rd Special GBC meeting on December 27, 2025, to address hostilities and seek stability.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defence’s Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson Lt General Maly Socheata emphasized the need for dialogue to resolve conflicts and restore peace between the two nations swiftly. Meanwhile, Thai Defence Ministry spokesperson Surasant Kongsiri mentioned that the secretariat meeting is planned to continue until Friday, with potential defense minister talks on the agenda for Saturday.
Cambodia had earlier accused Thailand of using fighter jets to drop cluster bombs in specific provinces, a claim refuted by the Thai army as targeting only military sites. The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority expressed concerns over the alleged use of cluster munitions and toxic substances near civilian areas, prompting clarifications from the Royal Thai Army.
