Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, has taken legal action against social media platforms, media outlets, journalists, and various social media accounts for what he claims is a malicious campaign against him regarding a recent POCSO case involving his son. Bandi Sanjay filed a defamation suit seeking Rs 1 crore in damages, emphasizing his right to reputation and dignity under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.
Alleging a coordinated effort to falsely implicate and politically target him and his family members, Bandi Sanjay accused the defendants of circulating false, defamatory, and misleading content across different media and digital platforms. He highlighted the use of sensationalized articles, fabricated social media posts, defamatory captions, and speculative commentary to create a misleading public perception linking him to the alleged acts involving his son.
The lawsuit, filed before the City Civil Court, lists 23 defendants, including Google, Meta, and certain Telugu news channels. Bandi Sanjay referenced numerous ‘X’ links, Instagram posts, and YouTube content in the suit, detailing the social media accounts involved in the alleged defamation campaign. He expressed concern that the online publications, which remain accessible, are causing ongoing reputational harm and professional embarrassment, affecting his mental well-being and political standing.
Bandi Sanjay had previously sought court intervention to remove the defamatory content, citing the irreparable damage caused by the continued circulation of false and misleading information online.
