The Minister laid the foundation for a cutting-edge cGMP facility, stressing the importance of biotechnology in India’s development. He encouraged collaborations between national R&D institutions and private industries to leverage the opportunities arising from advancements in nuclear medicine research.
The Minister inaugurated the National Facility for Recombinant Cells and Sensors and commended India’s unique BioE3 Policy, which integrates scientific innovation with economic sustainability and environmental concerns. He also mentioned the Biopharma SHAKTI Mission, recognizing the increasing global emphasis on bio-based economies. Minister Singh praised the prioritization of biotechnology over the past decade, particularly in areas like molecular biology, genomics, and cancer research.
Rajesh Gokhale, the Department of Biotechnology Secretary, highlighted the transformative impact of biotechnology on national progress. He outlined the BioE3 Policy’s focus on six key sectors, including bio-manufacturing. The institute’s Director (Additional Charge), T.R. Santhosh Kumar, discussed the significant resources at the Recombinant Cells and Sensors facility, emphasizing its role in cancer research. He also mentioned the upcoming cGMP facility’s potential to enhance access to advanced cell and gene therapies.
