Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, is set to kick off a year-long legal awareness campaign in Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamshala on Monday. The initiative aims to enhance access to justice and promote legal literacy among citizens. The event, part of the DISHA Scheme, will highlight efforts to provide pro-bono legal services and showcase justice sector reforms.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Department of Justice Secretary Niraj Verma will join the inaugural event. The program will start with formal proceedings, followed by a welcome address outlining the vision behind the workshop. The launch of “Nyaya Prabodh – Awakening to Justice” will mark a significant aspect of the campaign, focusing on deepening citizens’ understanding of their legal rights and responsibilities.
The legal awareness campaign will include activities like “Know Your Rights in 90 seconds” to educate citizens on legal rights and remedies. Additionally, a “Nyaya Quiz” will enhance awareness of Constitutional values and citizens’ rights, especially among youth. The initiative will also administer a “Pro Bono Pledge” to encourage legal professionals to contribute their expertise for the benefit of the underprivileged.
The workshop will feature discussions on pro bono initiatives by Himachal Pradesh National Law University, with faculty and students sharing their community legal service experiences. The event is expected to see participation from various legal bodies and institutions, aiming to make justice more citizen-centric and technologically accessible nationwide. The DISHA Scheme, with a budget of Rs 250 crore, strives to provide integrated legal services across India.
