The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed all Central government offices and Governors’ offices to strictly follow the prescribed script, text, diction, and pronunciation when singing or playing the National Song and the National Anthem at official functions. A recent order reiterated the protocols governing the use of these national symbols across the country. The directive emphasizes the importance of accuracy and respect in rendering the National Song and the National Anthem.
The order outlines specific occasions on which the National Song and the National Anthem of India should be sung or played. It mandates that these national symbols be performed with precision and reverence. The Ministry’s directive includes detailed guidelines on when and how the National Song and the National Anthem are to be presented at various official events.
According to the Ministry, the correct script, text, and pronunciation for both the National Song and the National Anthem are crucial and must be strictly adhered to. The Ministry has made available the accurate text and pronunciation guide for these national symbols on its official website for easy reference. Additionally, the order allows for the National Song to be played on special occasions as per government instructions.
In states where a State Song is performed alongside the National Song and the National Anthem, the protocol requires that all three songs be sung or played together. The National Song should precede the National Anthem in such instances. The Ministry also referred to an earlier order that detailed the protocols for singing the National Song at official ceremonies.
The Central government is commemorating the 150th year of ‘Vande Mataram’, emphasizing the importance of singing the National Song with respect and decorum. The Ministry highlighted that there is no objection to the performance of the National Song on various occasions, including mass singing, as long as it is done with proper respect. The resolution adopted by the Constituent Assembly in 1950 established ‘Jana Gana Mana’ as the National Anthem and accorded ‘Vande Mataram’ equal honor.
