The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs swiftly posted a public notice at the Jaipur Polo Ground near the Delhi Race Club, designating the over 15-acre land as government property. This action followed a favorable judicial ruling and included a warning against unauthorized occupation. The dispute over possession of the land in the heart of the Capital involves the Union government and the Indian Polo Association.
The Patiala House Court’s Vacation Judge Dhirendra Rana declined to stay the execution of the eviction order issued to Jaipur Polo Ground by the government on May 20. The court emphasized the importance of judicial discipline and propriety in its decision-making process. The Delhi High Court had previously disposed of the IPA’s writ petition on June 8 without granting any interim protection against eviction.
The Central government aims to acquire the Jaipur Polo Ground for organizing essential governmental and defense-related events. A similar repossession case involved the Delhi Gymkhana Club near the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry issued a notice citing the critical need for the property for defense infrastructure and public security purposes. Established in 1913, the Delhi Gymkhana Club is a prestigious social institution frequented by senior officials and influential citizens.
