The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy announced that the Global Wind Day 2026 Conference will take place on June 15, 2026, in Goa with the theme “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration.” The conference will address key priorities for India’s wind sector, such as resource adequacy, grid readiness, capacity expansion, domestic manufacturing competitiveness, export opportunities, and advancements in renewable energy forecasting. Various industry reports will be unveiled, emphasizing India’s potential to emerge as a global hub for wind turbine manufacturing and exports.
The event will feature plenary sessions and panel discussions involving government officials, regulators, developers, manufacturers, and experts to devise practical strategies for hastening deployment, enhancing implementation, and bolstering domestic capabilities. The statement highlighted that the Global Wind Day 2026 will play a crucial role in charting a course for sustained growth and clean energy aspirations as the sector progresses into its next phase of development.
India currently ranks as the world’s fourth-largest wind power market and aims to achieve 100 GW of wind energy by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035, as part of its broader objective of reaching 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity and achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, emphasized the significance of wind energy in India’s renewable energy strategy, citing the impressive 6.1 GW capacity addition in 2025–26 as a testament to effective policy and industry collaboration. Joshi stressed the need for accelerated progress in the upcoming phase.
On Global Wind Day 2026, the focus will shift towards translating ambitions into tangible actions, with India eyeing global export prospects in the sector. Earlier this year, the Union minister advocated for international investors to explore opportunities in India’s clean energy sector at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
