The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is committed to providing full support for sports science initiatives, stressing the importance of strategic investment and precise application for optimal results. Secretary (Sports) and Director General, SAI, Hari Ranjan Rao highlighted the need for integrating sports science effectively into daily training environments during a Sports Science Workshop for SAI coaches in precision sports like archery and shooting.
Rao underscored the significance of utilizing sports science to bolster athletes, especially in disciplines where small improvements can determine success. The workshop, part of ongoing coach sensitisation programs, aims to enhance training efficiency, prevent injuries, and ensure long-term athlete well-being across various sports disciplines.
The initiative seeks to align traditional coaching methods with evidence-based practices by bringing together coaches, sports scientists, medical professionals, and performance specialists. It is part of a broader effort by the Ministry to enhance coach capabilities in combat, endurance, team, and precision sports, ensuring athletes receive consistent, high-quality support.
The Sports Science Workshop for precision sports like shooting and archery focuses on leveraging biomechanics, conditioning, and stability training to improve postural control, consistency, and injury resilience. Coaches are exposed to practical applications of movement analysis and core-stability-focused conditioning to enhance technical efficiency and reduce injury risks for elite precision athletes.
The workshop covers a range of areas including physiology, recovery sciences, sports psychology, and sports medicine, reflecting a comprehensive approach to athlete preparation. Coaches are engaging with modules on nutrition, hydration, injury prevention, yoga-based recovery, and long-term athlete health, alongside sessions on sports psychology addressing focus, pressure management, and emotional control.
Practical sessions on neurofeedback, visualisation, wearable technology, data tracking, and AI-based performance feedback aim to equip coaches with modern tools for monitoring training and competition. Leading experts from various sports institutions are conducting these sessions to provide coaches with the latest insights and techniques.
