Mira Nair revealed her upcoming movie “Amri,” featuring Priyanka Chopra, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Jim Sarbh. Inspired by artist Amrita Sher-Gil, Nair expressed how Sher-Gil’s art has influenced her filmmaking for years. The film’s cast includes Anjali Sivaraman as Sher-Gil, Emily Watson, and Krisztián Csákvári.
Nair shared that “Amri” is a tribute to Amrita Sher-Gil, a renowned figure in Indian modern art. The movie, set in Hungary, France, and India, explores Sher-Gil’s life and artistic journey. Priyanka Chopra serves as an Executive Producer for the film, which is currently in production in India and Hungary.
“Amri” delves into Sher-Gil’s evolution as an artist and a woman, depicting her defiance of norms and her quest for self-expression. The film showcases Sher-Gil’s unique visual language that highlighted the lives of everyday Indians. The project aims to present India and its people from a non-European perspective.
Producer Samudrika Arora emphasized the film’s focus on identity and self-expression, reflecting the challenges of straddling different worlds.
