Olympic stars Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain have been selected as the flag and baton bearers for the Indian contingent at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 23. Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha expressed pride in this decision, wishing both athletes and the team good luck for the upcoming event.

Both Mirabai and Lovlina, who secured medals at the Tokyo Olympics, are set to showcase their talents once again at the Commonwealth Games. Mirabai, a silver medalist in Tokyo, is determined to excel in Glasgow, while Lovlina, a bronze medalist, aims to continue her success in the upcoming competition.

The selection of two female athletes for this prestigious role highlights the achievements of Mirabai and Lovlina on the international stage. As they prepare diligently for the Games in the United Kingdom, their participation in the opening ceremony is expected to set a positive tone for Team India.

Mirabai Chanu, a prominent figure in Indian weightlifting, will celebrate her 32nd birthday on August 8. With a strong track record in weightlifting, including multiple medals in World Championships and a gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she is eager to make her mark once again in Glasgow.

Lovlina Borgohain, known for her remarkable journey from kickboxing to boxing, has consistently delivered outstanding performances for India. Having clinched a bronze at the Tokyo Olympics and gold at the 2023 World Championship, she is poised to make a significant impact at the Commonwealth Games, where she aims to secure her first medal in this prestigious event.
