Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty sparked a political uproar by urging Hindu supporters of the Left, Congress, and Trinamool Congress to unite against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The Congress criticized his statement, labeling it divisive and inflammatory. Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput, in response to Chakraborty’s comments, accused him of being mentally unstable and making irresponsible remarks after not being nominated by the BJP to the Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha.
Congress MP Tariq Anwar also condemned Chakraborty’s remarks, highlighting that they unfairly targeted a specific community. Anwar emphasized the importance of appealing to all communities for the unity and integrity of India. CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah viewed Chakraborty’s statements as politically driven, suggesting a close relationship between the BJP and Mamata Banerjee aimed at sidelining the Left.
Chakraborty made these controversial statements during a public gathering in Chandannagar, West Bengal, urging Hindu supporters in the Communist Party, Congress, and Trinamool Congress to unite against the current government. The remarks come amidst regional tensions following recent violence in Bangladesh, particularly the killing of a Hindu man during protests, straining relations between Dhaka and New Delhi.
